Chapter 94: Back to the Capital
Chapter 94: Back to the Capital
The women naturally had to make their own breakfast, making do with some bread and jam. Similarly, they planned ahead, making sure to take as much food they could carry in their travels. They knew these two wouldn’t care for them, and they had no choice but to think for themselves.
After placing his plate on the sink, Hugo looked at Khalifa and approached her, causing her to put up her guard.
He smiled gently in response. "Let’s take a look at your truck shall we? I have a small garage we can do some basic repairs in."
At this, her tense shoulders slumped a bit, her guarded stare softening. "That’ll be nice." And she smiled at him gratefully, making him stare at her for a few seconds longer than appropriate.
Together, the two walked towards this garage, with the three women rushing their food and following closely behind.
As they approached the room, Khalifa quickly realized he was being humble. By small, it was actually a 200 sqm garage with a ceiling height of at least 4 meters. It could fit in her monster truck no problem.
Wordlessly, he arranged his tools and drove the truck to the hydraulic lift, accessing its chassis.
He was very serious in his work, and his handsome features was further enhanced by his serious expression. The sweat added a bit of glistening sexiness to him.
If he was not being an arse, Khalifa thought he was quite handsome.

After about an hour, the group finally set out to travel. Hugo was driving this time, with Khalifa at the shotgun seat, and the other girls squeezed at the back.
The road wasn’t easy, especially with the cars and zombies, but the truck’s sturdy suspension still managed, albeit probably not for long.
The three girls chatted with each other, soon finding out Trina’s background and the mother and daughter became more gushing. More than once did try passive-aggressively mention Hugo and, especially, Khalifa.
Hugo watched the three girls with a frown. A moment later, his eyes changed, and he went to a different road at an intersection.
The girls soon noticed they were not heading towards the mountain ranges, but in the opposite direction.
Trina mumbled, looking out. "This wasn’t going to the mountains."
"I’ll drop you three off in a safe place, don’t worry."
Trina flinched. "What?!"
Hugo’s eyebrows rose, "You’re not worried for your father?"
"..."
She rummaged her head so as to not be thrown away completely. "There’s so many zombies in the capital! Do you want to die?"
He sighed. "Do you think I’m stupid? Of course we’re not going to the city proper, but the military zone southeast."
Trina looked at him bitterly, sending Khalifa a glare. Khalifa rubbed her temples. This was obviously not something she had planned, right?
However, objectively speaking, she knew it actually wasn’t a bad idea.
From the books she understood the capital base understandably wasn’t in the city itself (considering the millions of zombies in there), but in the military zone tens of kilometers away.
It had the most advanced technology and best defenses in the country. From what she read, after a couple of years, it became one of the more powerful bases in the world.
The Peace territory of the heroine, managed by Ryo, was also powerful because it has this bases’ backing.
However, she also knew there were plenty of power struggles and the death of Ryo’s uncle was one of the things that led to the climax because the capital base was in chaos without the man’s leadership. It naturally affected the subsidiary bases like the heroine’s peace base.
It was also closer to where she was headed, and she didn’t have to deal with this flirtatious bastard anymore.
And so, instead of going to his mountain base, they headed back to the capital instead. All with mixed moods.
***
The trip was naturally rough with all the zombies and the cars they had to run over, and an hour ride had to be extended to several hours because of this.
The fact that there were three women screaming behind them wasn’t making things any easier, either.
"Shut up or I’ll throw you out!" Khalifa uttered, voice a little louder than usual, and it shut the mother and daughter up.
Trina, very bitter, on the other hand, was feisty. "Who are you to tell us what to do?"
"I own the car. Want to get out?"
Trina looked at Hugo with tearing eyes. "Aren’t you driving?"
Hugo shrugged. "I don’t own the car." However he saw that his answer didn’t impress Khalifa, like it would’ve other women vying for his favor.
After this time, he could tell that she didn’t like how he treated this supposed ’former lover’ of his.
"I explicitly told you before we had sex that I only do casual sex, mostly just one time."
He sneered, looking at the rear view mirror, straight into the woman’s eyes. "Don’t make yourself look wronged. It’s annoying."
"You!!"
But she was powerless to do anything, so she only pouted and held back her tears like a strong woman. Most men would feel heartbroken for the beauty, unfortunately the man’s attention was all on the woman next to him.
No one spoke anymore after this. Hence, the trip was quiet except for the sound of crashing and zombie innards splashing around.
No matter what though, hours of this was bound to take a toll on the car. As he was driving, Hugo noticed its performance beginning to turn sluggish and knew that it was time for its repair.
They found a car repair store after a while of driving.
Unfortunately, although it was in the suburbs, there were still a number of zombies. By visual estimate, there were about a hundred that could reach them during the time they entered the garage door.
This meant someone had to go down and open the door amongst all this.
"I’ll go down." Hugo said, and looked at Khalifa worriedly. With her driving skills, instead of getting inside the repair shop, she may run over him instead.
He then looked at Phenny, the mother, who gulped and nodded while shaking.
But… It wasn’t going to be easy.
The noise they made attracted all the zombies in the vicinity, adding up to a hundred.
Khalifa’s blue-green eyes watched all this and looked at Hugo, who had turned a little pale. "I’ll help you." She said, taking out the katana in her backpack. Everyone flinched.
It wasn’t that they didn’t notice how bulky her bag was, but they didn’t really think much about it as everyone had a lot of baggage… until now. It was absolutely baffling to them how a katana fit in there.
"Not joining?" She asked a gaping Hugo, before jumping down.
"Hey!" He yelled, while the girls both screamed and watched on with a bit of excitement.
However, what they saw below was contrary to their expectations.
They could only gape as they watched Khalifa slash her way through the zombies, beheading them with grace and skill, and her face not showing any hint of fear at all.
All these were reflected in the eyes of everyone in the car. Especially Hugo’s, with the image being etched into his heart and never to be taken off again.
’What an amazing woman…’ he thought, heart beating more erratically than usual.
Hugo didn’t know he could be so obsessed with another person.
