Khalifa: Queen in the Apocalypse

Chapter 86: First Day of Chaos (Part 1)

Chapter 86: First Day of Chaos (Part 1)

The movement was incredibly creepy. They could hear the flesh inside being teared, and the bones being bent.

"What’s wrong with her?!" One of the men turned to ask his companion, voice squeaking, hoping the other knew what the heck was going on. His hope was quickly dashed when he saw the other man’s eyes were completely white, his body standing up in crooked ways.

"O-Oi! What’s wrong with you?!" He yelled but the other man whipped his head to his direction in an odd angle, sending shivers down his spine. As if responding, the man growled, revealing teeth.

"O-OI!"

Without warning, the man glomped onto him, and he was so taken aback that he wasn’t able to push the weird creature off of him. The thing leaned down, sinking its teeth on his flesh, and only did he realize what was happening.

Blood splattered and he paled, quickly losing the energy to push the monster away. "GYAAAAAAAHHHH!!"

Squelch

"AHHH! H-HELPP!!" The man screamed as he was bitten, eaten, his innards being taken out, soon losing any signs of life.

Squelch, Squelch, Squelch

Ew.

Khalifa couldn’t react very well at the sight of a big man being mauled. Soonafter, the man also turned bluish, adopting similar movements, and she knew he had turned into a zombie as well.

She was only pulled out of her daze when the car abruptly stopped, crashing into a hard surface. Fortunately, the back of the car seat saved her from being displaced too far and injuring herself.

However, the three zombies—which were standing up at the moment—weren’t so lucky.

Crash!

The two were now lying down head first and struggling to get up, looking even uglier.

Khalifa then heard the door click open. She frowned, struggling to crawl and kneel up so she could see over the window.

It was the driver, though he didn’t know that there were more monsters outside than inside of the car. The driver realized this when he was a few meters away from the car, but it was too late to come back, as he was already surrounded by zombies. They immediately glomped on him, to the point he could no longer be seen.

Soon, another wrenching scream reached her ears, followed by the disgusting sound of squelching of meat. She heard growls beside her and she immediately backed away.

Using her ability, she quickly sliced the rope that held her, taking out her gun from the space and shooting the three of them.

She wasn’t a sharp shooter but the zombies were fortunately close enough that she managed to hit them both. The noise attracted zombies outside and they approached the windows trying to get in.

She rushed to the open door and saw a zombie coming and shot it quickly, kicking it out before closing the door, barely avoiding a nick to the face.

She heaved a sigh, calming down her nerves. Eyes on the zombies next to her, as if checking if there was any movement.

It flinched—

Roar!

She then recalled their heads had to be dismembered so she did so. Taking out a sharp edge from her space, she made a sliding motion and beheaded the damned thing. She also walked to the other zombie, doing the same for good measure.

Sigh.

"How unlucky…" She mumbled as she fell down in a random seat, legs shaking a bit. She tried to cool down, ignoring the constant scratches and growls outside the windows.

She took out her phones from space to see if there were calls. Sure enough, there were indeed missed calls. Her normal phone had missed calls from the three men until about an hour ago, while the universal phone had called until just a few minutes prior.

This likely meant the disturbance started an hour ago, and had finally reached her location—wherever this was—a couple of minutes prior.

She rubbed her temples and took a look at the map in the universal phone. After a couple of clicks, she cursed out, because she saw that she was hundreds of kilometers away from the island!

She looked at the time and saw she was out for several hours, almost an entire day.

And this was on good traffic. Who knew how long this trip would take with zombies and cars blocking the road!

She obviously spent a fortune to live comfortably after the apocalypse. What was this now?

Mentally, she kicked the corpses that brought her all this trouble, but it was not enough and she had to do it physically.

As she kicked the damned zombies to vent her frustration, her universal phone rang.

It was Cauis’ call that connected. "Thank goodness!" He heaved out, "Where are you?!"

Then the phone was taken by Kaize, "Tell us where you are! We’ll fetch you!"

She was silent for a bit, and cleared her throat. "I’m fine… a little far."

"Where? We’ll pick you up."

"No. I’m too far." She frowned when they insisted on going to her, "NO. I am stronger, and I have a lot of weapons in the space. I will go to you instead." She told them very seriously, "Don’t you dare make me worry!"

"But…!"

"I’ll be fine. I’ll be more worried about you guys, and maybe I’ll get distracted. Do you want that?"

Silence echoed on the other side, followed by a helpless sigh, knowing how stubborn she could get. Cauis took the headpiece and told her to be careful.

"Stay safe," he said with a soft tone, but breathing filled with exasperation. "Come back to me soon."

After putting the phones back in her space, Khalifa started planning her route. Her tablet was also connected to a satellite so she knew where she was: Hundreds of miles away from the island, nearer to City G.

Approximately, the way back would take around a week, considering the chaos in between.

And this was by a fast car, which she didn’t have.

And… There was a more pressing problem than a fast car: She couldn’t drive!
