Khalifa: Queen in the Apocalypse

Chapter 85: Stumbling Block

Chapter 85: Stumbling Block

Khalifa frowned, her heart heavy at the image of the vibrant Kaize on an operating table.

"What happened?" Cauis asked, gently patting her back.

She lifted her head to look at him, telling him what the call was about.

He placed her hair behind her ears and combed her hair being blown by the gentle breeze. "I’ll come with you."

"It’s okay." She said with a smile, "But you really don’t have to…"

Cauis would naturally not let her go herself, and even readied the boat to the mainland.

They bought a couple of sea vessels. For this, they chose a relatively simple white yacht.

In this period in the Island, the three of them had learned basic driving. It was just that Khalifa didn’t seem to have much talent in this aspect.

It could be said her driving skills were negative.

Fortunately, Cauis was a good driver and he drove the yacht this time.

After traveling for an hour, they reached the port area, going to a special garage specially for their vehicles.

This was a line of port they developed to be a direct connection to the island. There would be a small community on this side, to serve as liaison to the island.

Of course, at this time, only hired hands were here.

This was also directly connected to a villa area which they don’t own, but they did have a well-prepared unit with a war veteran as a butler there.

They parked the yacht and took a car, heading to the hospital. With heavy moods, they passed through street and avenues and traffic, trying to get there as quickly as they could.

However, they hadn’t even gotten halfway when a phone rang.

It was Cauis’. His frown turned deeper as he listened. "What?"

"Why is that my—"

"Fine, stop crying." He said, followed by an exasperated sigh.

When he hung up, his frown didn’t soften. Khalifa couldn’t help but raise her hand to massage the curl of his eyebrows.

Because he was driving, he kept his sights on the road, but his expression softened considerably.

"What happened?" She asked, placing her chin on his wide shoulder.

Cauis didn’t answer for a while, complicated.

It was apparently a call from distant relatives, asking him for help. "Their house was being taken and they said I was the only highly educated person they knew."

Cauis didn’t say anything after that, and he was still obviously making a decision.

Caius had a strong sense of responsibility, even if he didn’t like these relatives, not after avoiding care of him when he was a child.

It didn’t help that they were begging so much. The adults may deserve to suffer, but the children were innocent.

By coincidence, the family was in the next town.

They reached the hospital and Cauis looked conflicted as he was minutes prior.

Khalifa smiled and kissed his cheek, before getting down the car.

"Go." She said, "Just come here after."

He sighed and looked at her with great reluctance. "See you later." He said, leaning down to taste her one more time.

She smiled, receiving his kiss. "See you later."

**

Inside the hospital, wearing a mask, she went to the information desk to ask for Kaize’s location.

While waiting for the nurse to check, another one arrived next to her.

It was a male nurse, and apparently he had been waiting for her. "Ms. Khalifa?"

She nodded.

"Follow me." He said, with a deadpan expression on his face.

Khalifa was too worried for Kaize and was too unfamiliar with this world to notice any oddities at all.

She was guided by the nurse to a room where Kaize supposedly was.

But…there was no one in the bed. In fact, it looked clean and hadn’t been used for the day at all.

Her eyebrows furrowed and the oddness finally dawned on her.

But before she could run, the door shut, and a handkerchief with a strong smell covered her nose.

The strong scent immediately blurred her vision, and soon she felt her eyelids getting heavier.

As she lost consciousness, she couldn’t help but think:

’I should’ve known!!’

***

She groggily woke up, vaguely seeing darkness.

Judging by the vibrations of the surface, she judged that she was in a car.

She looked around, face on the Velcro-like flooring, to see she was in a large van. She tried to move her body but quickly realized her movement was limited.

"There’s no use struggling." A high-pitched voice nearby uttered, and she looked at the source. "You’re obviously tied up."

Khalifa blinked and looked at the owner of the voice, eventually realizing who this was from videos.

It was that woman! It was Kaize’s deranged fan!!

Next to her were two men, ogling her while drooling. The other woman saw this and sneered.

"You were here for a few hours and doing nothing, but they were lusting after you so much. Slut!"

Khalifa frowned, wanting to massage her temple, but she remembered she was tied up. "Where’s Kaize?"

The woman looked at her sinisterly, grabbing her face and squeezing it. She looked at her with evil, as if wanting to rip her skin off of her face.

Perhaps, it really was what she was thinking.

However, the woman didn’t say this out loud. Instead, she just mocked Khalifa for falling so easily for her tricks.

"Pfff— Kaize is surrounded by people, how can I kidnap him? How long have I wanted to? Stupid woman!"

She was pulling her face everywhere as she did so, making Khalifa feel completely uncomfortable.

Then she abruptly let go, and Khalifa looked at the woman guardedly, wondering what she was up to next

To her surprise, the woman fell down, fainting. Another one of the men also fell, and his partner flinched, shaking him.

"Hey! Wake up!"

A few moments later, the fainted woman seemed to have woken up and started to move.

Only… she began moving at weird angles, the creepy sound of bones cracking sounding in her ears.

Khalifa’s eyes widened at the sight, and her heart dropped.

She gulped as the woman’s eyes only showed white and she started growling.

Did the apocalypse begin early?
