?Chapter 232: Chapter 233: Domineering Leave Request (3)_1 Chapter 232: Chapter 233: Domineering Leave Request (3)_1 As soon as the sky turned dark, it seemed to happen extraordinarily quickly. Unconsciously, the entire suburb was fully embraced by nightfall.

Just like on Half Mountain, nighttime brought incredibly low temperatures to the suburb.

Having been busy all afternoon, Jing Haohao had long ago digested every bit of the food she had eaten at noon.

Cold and hungry, Jing Haohao found herself losing her ability to withstand the chill. She stood under a street lamp, staring longingly at the barren street, hoping for a vehicle heading back to the city, something she could hitch a ride on.

The quiet of the suburbs at night was profoundly silent. Jing Haohao stood alone, shifting her nearly frozen legs from time to time. After who knows how long, Jing Haohao lifted her hand to cup her icy face, warming her hands with her breath. Just as she was about to lower her hand, a vehicle slowly pulled up across the street.

Jing Haohao found the car vaguely familiar, so she put down her hand and looked closely.

At the same time, the vehicle flickered back to life. It turned around and parked before Jing Haohao.

Next, the driver’s door opened and a man dressed in a black coat stepped out. He turned his head and looked at Jing Haohao in silence.

For an instant, Jing Haohao felt as if she was nailed to the ground, immovable.

Under the dim, yellowish street lamp, she clearly saw Shen Liangnian’s handsome face that had considerably thinned.

Shen Liangnian stared at Jing Haohao quietly for a long time before finally closing the car door slowly. He walked around the car and stopped a step away from her, opened his mouth and said, “Get in the car. I’ll drive you back to the city.”

Jing Haohao didn’t move, nor did she say anything.

Shen Liangnian slightly turned his body, opened the passenger door and gently pushed Jing Haohao’s arm, guiding her into the car, before harshly shutting the door.

Once Shen Liangnian got into the car, as was his usual manner, he first leaned sideways to fasten Jing Haohao’s seatbelt before resuming his position and securing his own.

“Cold?” Shen Liangnian turned his head and asked Jing Haohao after taking a glance at her.

Jing Haohao remained silent.

Shen Liangnian reached out to turn up the car’s heater to the maximum, then started the car.

Jing Haohao and Shen Liangnian had little interaction, and the car was silent. On the entire trip back to the city, there is almost no other vehicle on the road.

The car maintained a smooth speed. As they passed a rest stop, Shen Liangnian pulled over.

He didn’t say anything but simply locked the car when he got out as if he was fearful that Jing Haohao might leave on her own.

Shen Liangnian returned after about five minutes, with a cup of steaming hot milk tea in one hand and a bag in the other.

He handed everything to Jing Haohao, a gentle smile played on his face as it always did when he was with her, as if nothing had happened. In a soft tone, he said, “Have something hot to drink to warm up. It’ll make you feel better.”

Clutching the scalding cup of milk tea, the shaking was severe at her fingertips.

“There’s some food in the bag. You must be hungry by now at this hour, have something to eat first,” said Shen Liangnian and paused, “It’s all your favorites.”

Jing Haohao didn’t say anything. She simply looked down at the cup of hot milk tea she held in her palms.

With the rest stop’s light shining into the car, Shen Liangnian noticed that Jing Haohao looked rather pale. A pang shot through his heart, so he turned around, started the car, and was back on the road.
