Chapter 89: Forgotten race
Chapter 89: Forgotten race
(Are you sure you know where you’re going to?)
Leon asked Levi, while diving deeper into the pool. As far as he could see, they were in the middle of nowhere, no Reef in sight and the bottom was foggy.
(I’m a 100% sure, and if we don’t see anything, we can go back)
Levi encouraged.
Leon could only shake his head and follow, this creature didn’t know what it meant to be 100% sure. It was just throwing the word around like a paperweight.
And so they continued, Deeper and deeper. At some point, it felt like Leon was floating in the void again. The water was lonely and cold, He didn’t like it, but the allure of an undiscovered treasure pushed him forward.
After about 15 more minutes of swimming downward, they came upon a statue of a man seated in a lotus position at the bottom of the pool.
(Hm? What is that?)
Leon mused. The statue was the exact size of a normal person. Usually, when making statues, people would exaggerate the size for ambience. However, this didn’t seem the slightest bit exaggerated.
(I don’t know, but it’s the source of that strange energy.)
Levi said while circling around the statue, inspecting it. For it to feel the energy of this thing way up there in the Reef, there had to be something really special about it. He wanted to know what it was.
(Hmmm)
Leon looked at the statue with squinted eyes. It was faceless, this creature definitely had something to do with the faceless mercenary company.
(System!!)
Leon activated the treasured pagoda spirit in an attempt to scan the statue in front of him.
Meanwhile, above the pool, 10s of the recruits that were previously inside were slowly emerging. 5 days, this was the limit for staying in the pool.
Even if they didn’t achieve anything, they would have to come out sooner or later. These were the rules.
"Nothing unexpected…" The great mage spoke softly while staring at the emerging recruits. Many of them had broken through minor realms, like from middle stage to the peak of level 1, but that wasn’t what he was looking out for.
He was looking to see if anyone had made it to level 2, and sadly, he couldn’t find any.
"The more promising ones are still down below." One of the twin elders soothed the great mage. Everyone here was tensed. There were those with family members in there, there were those with disciples there. All of them wanted success.
But not as much as the great mage. Even though he didn’t act like it, The great mage was a true patriot of the company. He wanted them to succeed and to that effect he had spent a fortune of his own money grooming talents.
"Yes, you’re right" the great mage nodded. The lather 10 of the top 20 and the top 10 were still in there. If anyone could break through it would be them.
Back inside the pool.
[Compiling results...

]
It was analyzing the origins of this creature before them. The system had a massive library of information, of which it used with its computing ability to identify objects.
[Ding!!!
Result: statue is emitting slight traces of soul energy….this is a firm indication of the sorcerer race.
]
Sorcerers!!!
If the warlocks were to be tagged as Demon’s in this world, then the sorcerer race would be the Devil.
Even though they weren’t as abundant in population like the warlocks and mages. Sorcerers tend to bring out the most dreaded magic users on the face of their planet. With their ability to suck out souls, they were ruthless.
(This one should be long gone, right?)
Leon thought to himself. Similarly to how the warlock race were being hunted by mages, the sorcerer race had been hunted too. Apart from the crazy powerful ones, the rest had been killed off.
(I feel no life-energy)
Levi said to Leon, it was currently curled up on the head of the statue. It didn’t know the stories of sorcerers, nor did it know what had just been said to Leon. It was still curious on what this was.
(Maybe I can use this corpse on that project then)
Leon thought to himself, he could only imagine what benefits a sorcerer corpse would bring to him. He wanted to study it bad.
However, when Leon reached out to grab the statue by the arm, he felt a small wave of water touch his hand, following which he was grabbed by an arm.
(Huh?)
Leon was briefly shocked, but then when he looked at the arm he understood that he had fucked up.
(Fuck!!!!)
Leon screamed in his mind before letting out a blast of energy that completely broke apart the statue, revealing a faceless human with skin and bones.
(Hmm???)
After letting off the blast of life-energy, the man underneath the statue was set flying as if he had no strength in his body at all.
(Level 1 strength?)
Leon was surprised, whatever this was, it was extremely weak for the new Leon who had broken through to level 2.
—whoosh
Leon flew forward and pushed outwards attempting to knock him out, but with a sway to the side he was able to dodge, leaving Leon in a cloud of dust.
(He really is weak)
Leon smiled evilly, he was scared a minute ago, but now that he saw how weak this ’sorcerer’ was, he couldn’t help but be thrilled.
He still had the opportunity to capture him and of course, a life specimen was better than a dead one.
—whoosh
Leon launched forward once again, this time, his attack landed forcing the man to be pushed backwards, with the speed akin to a Canon blast.
This was the power of a level 2 warlock, he was supremely powerful.
(This strength, it’s thrilling)
With a smirk, Leon smiled, however, he didn’t expect that in the next second he would be the one getting attacked by the man.
—Boom
The punch of the man landed, but instead of the soft low-level strength of a level 1, what Leon felt was the brute strength of a level 2 fighter.
And with that little change, he was pushed several steps back.
(Shit!! He’s getting stronger, I need to end this fast)
Leon’s eyes turned light blue, he then zoomed forward and in an instant released a volley of blows at the man.
—Boom
—Boom
—Boom
—Boom
The punches were wild and caused the seabed to shake furiously. But at the end of these could only be one winner.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t Leon.
—Boom!!!
Leon received a punch to the gut that saw him fly backwards, but unlike last time it wasn’t only a few steps, he was pushed back by at least 20 ft (6.1 meters).
(I can’t win this.)
Immediately, Leon thought in his mind. The speed at which this "man" grow in strength was astounding. 1 minute Leon had the upper hand and in the next he was losing.
Only one thought came to mind.
(Run!!!)
He didn’t even think twice before shooting off into the distance. He had to preserve his life, he could not die here.
But then the man didn’t seem to want to let Leon go.....he chased Leon with the same furiousity Leon used to run away.
Soon, the sea bed was covered with the dust from their chase. The predator had seemingly turned into the prey, and with the speed at which the sorcerer was breaking through he would still catch up to Leon.
(I can’t be captured by him)
The torture of having your soul extracted from your physical body. Leon had been through it before when he was cast into the void. This feeling, he couldn’t stand the thought of going through it again.
(No choice!! I have no choice!!)
Leon screamed in his mind, he then abruptly turned to face the man who was speeding towards him...
"Badur’s Gates"
All of a sudden, an iron gate appeared above Leon at an angle facing the man.
"Negative extermination light"
Badur’s Gate swung open and released a bulk load of negative energy aiming directly at the man.
"What the…." Seeing this, a chill immediately went down the spine of the sorcerer. The energy released from that gate felt like death and agonizing one.
(Dodge!!!)
He screamed in his mind
—Boooooowanggggggg!!!!!
The negative energy decimated all that laid before it, creating a massive hole in the ground. And when everything settled, Leon looked over at the hole.
There was no sight of the sorcerer, he had been exterminated body and soul. At least that was what Leon thought at the moment.
(He’s still alive)
Levi said to Leon, resulting in Leon looking upwards involuntarily. There the sorcerer stood staring at Leon with a look of unrestrained fear.
That attack was scary….
After a brief staring contest with Leon, he simply just turned around and shot up the pool with all his strength.
—po!!!!
—poo!!!!
—pooo!!!
While he blasted out of the pool, his strength increased, he went from level 3 to peak level 3 and finally, when he emerged from with the pool.
He was at level 4.
"That’s....." as soon as he did, the great mage noticed him standing in the sky above the pool.
"Take cover!!!" The great mage shouted, but he was too late. The sorcerer sent out a beam of light, claiming the life of 50 recruits before being chased off by the Great mage.
It was disastrous
