Khalifa: Queen in the Apocalypse

Chapter 108: Zombie Mob

Chapter 108: Zombie Mob

The National Military Academy and Barracks, which was where the Capitol Base would be located, was located in a man-made plateau.

This plateau was also located in one of the country’s most exclusive mountain ranges.

It was an ideal location because it was not only self-sufficient, its location was easy to guard and difficult to attack.

The town they were now in, aptly called Soldier Town, was located at the foot of its only concreted entrance.

The town was located in a small semi-open valley, with the perimeter filled with mines. A very apt pathway to the country’s premier military facility.

However, while the facilities were good in theory, the apocalypse had definitely taken its toll on the town.

It was worth noting that there were many holes, and the roads were basically destroyed. These were made by grenades, minefields, shotguns, etc. It was obvious the battle had been intense.

This made sense, considering their location. It was estimated that the base should deal with the zombies in this place very soon, if they hadn’t already.

They explored a bit and basically everywhere they could pass through was uncrossable by vehicle. Even the monster truck would have some trouble.

Because of the sheer number of bombs around, they didn’t dare use the truck, lest they hit one and exploded themselves instead. At least on foot, they could be more careful.

They couldn’t go around the outside of the town either. They didn’t think those minefield warnings were lies.

They parked the monster truck on the side of the road, feeling reluctant, but there really was no choice.

Khalifa also asked Hugo to leave the key in a place easily found. Who knew if it could help someone someday.

They carefully went on foot towards the eerie town, with them trying to keep as close to the perimeter as they could. Even if the distance was much longer, the fights they’d have to go through would be much less.

But, being the bustling town that it was, there were naturally many zombies. Even in their location, they were still found by quite a number.

The boys and Khalifa used cold weapons for now, trying to save as much energy as they could. The walk was still long after all, they might need their other weapons in more urgent situations.

Trina and Mrs Adams didn’t help much, as always, with the former almost always near Hugo for ’protection’.

The group traveled through with raised weapons and tense hearts, dealing with the occasional zombie they encountered along the edges.

The night was eerie, almost as if it was going to consume them. As they traveled through the desolate town, they couldn’t help but imagine what would happen if they chose the more populous path.

As if hearing their fears, the sound of growls and shuffling feet soon reached their ears. "They’re here!" Jojo squeaked, and they raised their weapons high, with the teen slightly shaking.

Because of its proximity to the military barracks, the town had a number of uniformed zombies.

They had stronger bodies and were thus more difficult to kill. This was just the travel around the perimeter of the town—as they were afraid of the huge population of zombies inside—and they were already encountering trouble.

Hugo was soon forced to use his guns before they could clear out this batch.

Luckily, the advantage of being a military town was that there were also a lot of military surplus stores, tactical gear shops, which were just what they needed!

Khalifa handed Trina a sword. "Don’t be a burden." She said, looking down at the knife the girl was holding.

Which, after so long, had yet to get dirty.

Hugo still wondered why he and Khalifa still bothered. Why don’t they just leave these baggages behind and go on their way?

They didn’t even have to go to that damned base; They each had their own.

Sigh. Although Khalifa never mentioned it to him, he knew she was kind.

Don’t look at her looking like a killing machine, but the girl had a really soft heart.

They fought their way through the zombies, and she dared not use too much of her abilities.

Hugo’s silent guns were now in short supply and they mostly used cold weapons to deal with them. And using Hugo’s loud guns, on the other hand, was like asking to get eaten.

She needed her power as backup.

Fortunately, the military stores had a lot of supplies, including some sharp edges that they could use as weapons. Guns were controlled items, but cold weapons were for open play, especially for places like this one.

Be stealthy, fight when needed, and resupply. Repeat.

This went on for hours until they reached two-thirds past the town.

They had to go a bit deeper into the Town and unsurprisingly encountered more zombies.

This was very difficult not only because of the numbers but also their earlier consumption.

Khalifa decided to use a bit of her power by extending her sword with her ability. She anchored it to the blade, expanding its reach, and saving up a lot of energy.

She could also extend it as needed, which made it look like her slashes could reach meters away.

Her move significantly lightened up the group’s burden, and they quickly regained momentum. Soon, they finally neared their last lap before entering the forest path to the Capitol Base.

They didn’t notice that several people inside the buildings were watching them efficiently deal with the zombies.

It was a group of people, about a dozen, and seeing that they were only a few minutes away from leaving, immediately decided to run after them.

As such, Khalifa’s group, who were finally relieved to see that the gate was only a hundred meters away—killing zombies without bothering anyone else—was suddenly called in desperation.

And very loudly.

"HEELLPPPP!!!!!" The small group of survivors ran after them, "Take us with you!!!!"

Maybe they would’ve. But these idiots were in the dozens and they thoughtlessly caught their attention like this!

Did they really think they’d go out of their way to rescue them??

Instead, it just attracted more and more zombies, which converged, forming a small damned wave.

And it was more than what they could handle.

They watched as the undead grouped together creating a creepy black wave of death, mouths open and drooling, looking at them hungrily.

A lot of the idiots were quickly consumed as well. They ran for their lives, but one after the other they were overtaken by the wave of monsters.

It was like watching sand consumed by the waves, except much much more disgusting.

Hugo could only curse, pulling Khalifa and trying to get her to safety, possibly out of the town.

…Only to see another wave forming near the gates.

"Shiiiit!!"
