Chapter 226 – The Fall of the Last Daughters
Chapter 226 – The Fall of the Last Daughters
Shadows on the Horizon
The ruins of House Nocturne still smoldered.
The once-magnificent estate, a symbol of vampire nobility and dominance, had been reduced to ashes. The patriarch was gone. His sons were gone. His soldiers, his loyal knights—all of them had been wiped from existence.
All that remained were the last two daughters.
They had escaped during the chaos.
But it was only temporary.
Tonight—
They would die.
Sena and Lilith moved through the ruined streets like specters, their steps silent, their presence masked beneath layers of illusion.
The last Nocturne daughters had gone into hiding, but hiding was meaningless.
Not when they were hunting.
Not when death had already decided their fate.
Lilith smirked as she ran a dagger along her fingertips, her crimson eyes flickering with anticipation.
"Shall we play with them first?"
Sena, ever the composed one, adjusted her gloves, her expression unreadable.
"Of course."
Lilith let out a small, delighted hum.
"Good. I want to hear them scream."
The Nocturne Daughters
Deep within a decaying manor on the outskirts of the city, Selene and Veyna Nocturne huddled in the candlelit safety of their hidden refuge.
For days, they had been on the run.
For days, they had felt eyes watching them.
No matter where they went, the sensation of impending doom clung to their skin like a parasite.
Veyna, the younger of the two, paced near the boarded-up window, her breath ragged.
"We need to run again," she whispered. "We need to leave the city—"
"There’s nowhere left to go."
Selene, the elder, sat with her back straight, her fingers wrapped around the hilt of a silver dagger.
"They’re coming for us. You know that, don’t you?"
Veyna swallowed hard.
She knew.
Of course she knew.
They had seen the bodies.
The blood.
The remnants of their house being picked apart like carrion.
But accepting death was something else entirely.
"Selene, we can still—"
The candles flickered.
A draft slithered through the room.
Both sisters froze.
A chill ran down their spines.
And then—
A whisper.
A voice.
Laughing.
Veyna spun around, her heart hammering in her chest.
Nothing.
Selene tightened her grip on her weapon.
"They’re already here."
The Hunt Begins
Sena stood atop the roof, gazing down at the flickering candlelight from the manor.
"They’re scared," she murmured.
Lilith crouched beside her, licking her lips.
"Of course they are. That’s what makes this fun."
Sena ignored her.
"We go in slow. No quick kills."
Lilith smirked.
"That’s the best way."
A pause.
Then—
"Let’s begin."
The hunt started with whispers.
Soft. Unsettling.
Lilith’s illusion magic seeped into the air, filling the manor with phantom voices.
At first, they were distant.
But soon—
They were everywhere.
A woman’s laughter.
A child’s cry.
The eerie hum of a lullaby that neither Selene nor Veyna had ever heard before.
The candles flickered violently.
The air grew heavy.
The house itself seemed to breathe.
And then—
The doors slammed open.
Selene jerked to her feet, dagger raised, her breath caught in her throat.
"Who’s there?"
Silence.
Veyna’s fingers trembled as she clutched at her sister’s sleeve.
"Selene… I don’t think we’re alone."
A shadow moved.
From the far end of the hallway—
A figure stepped forward.
Eyes red as spilled wine.
Lips curved into a slow, hungry smile.
Lilith.
And from behind them, another presence emerged.
Cold. Calculating.
Sena.
A Fight Without Hope
Selene acted first.
She lunged, her dagger aimed for Lilith’s throat.
Fast. Precise.
A perfect attack.
And yet—
Lilith vanished.
A blur of motion.
A flicker of a grin.
Then—
Pain.
Selene stumbled backward, clutching at her shoulder where a dagger had suddenly appeared.
Blood seeped between her fingers.
"Oh dear," Lilith murmured. "That wasn’t very nice, was it?"
Veyna screamed and threw a blast of vampire magic toward Sena.
A black wave of energy crackled through the air, surging toward its target—
But it never landed.
Sena lifted her hand, catching the attack with eerie ease.
She clenched her fingers.
The energy dissolved.
Veyna’s face paled.
"Impossible…"
Sena’s expression remained blank.
"This is over."
And then—
She moved.
Faster than the eye could follow.
Veyna barely had time to react before a blade sliced through her leg, sending her crashing to the ground.
She screamed.
Lilith knelt beside her, tilting her head.
"That sounded pretty."
Veyna tried to crawl away.
Selene tried to fight.
But Sena was unrelenting.
The battle stretched on—
A slow, agonizing dance of violence.
Blades clashed.
Blood spilled.
Their desperation grew.
Their resistance weakened.
And in the end—
Selene and Veyna Nocturne stood upon their knees, broken and defeated.
Lilith wiped the blood from her blade, sighing dramatically.
"Well, this was fun."
Selene glared, her breath shaking.
"You… monsters…"
Lilith grinned.
"Oh sweetheart—"
"We know."
Sena stepped forward, blade raised.
"Goodbye."
And with one clean motion—
The first head fell.
A second later—
The other followed.
Blood pooled beneath their bodies.
And just like that—
House Nocturne was no more.
Lilith stepped over the corpses, humming a tune.
"I do love a happy ending."
Sena sighed.
"Come on. We’re done here."
They disappeared into the night, leaving nothing behind but death and silence.
