?Chapter 702: Chapter 703: Goodbye (5)_1 Chapter 702: Chapter 703: Goodbye (5)_1 Liang Chen, entirely, found himself standing still on the spot, unable to move.
…
While walking, Jing Haohao didn’t feel the cold, but now, as she stopped, she felt a coolness creeping up from her feet.
Jing Haohao stamped her feet, shaking off the snowflakes clinging to her clothes, before swiftly quickening her steps, preparing to leave.
Empty and desolate, the entire overpass had no one else. Jing Haohao took a few steps before noticing a figure ahead.
The distance made it difficult for her to recognize the person. The snow was falling heavily as if it could bury anyone beneath it. With no hesitation, Jing Haohao continued walking forward.
She noticed the hesitance in the person’s step ahead. Jing Haohao felt a knot of uncertainty in her heart. She took another couple of steps forward before recognizing who it was.
Her steps abruptly came to a halt.
Wind laced with snow swirled around.
Jing Haohao and Liang Chen continued to stay motionless in their posture, their eyes locked onto each other.
Neither of them broke the silence. The world around them fell quiet, only the sounds of wind and falling snow could be heard.
After an unknown length of time, a hurried pedestrian walked past them, their footsteps crunching in the snow, before silence prevailed once more.
Liang Chen finally broke the silence, striding slowly towards her.
The man was dressed in a black trench coat, his collar upright, giving him a dignified appearance.
Up until now, the heavy snow had prevented Jing Haohao from getting a good look at his face. But as he approached, she clearly saw his handsome face, his gaze as deep as the sea.
Like a figure frozen in place, Jing Haohao could not move.
She watched, wide-eyed, as Liang Chen stepped within arm’s reach of her. Then, her breath hitched.
Jing Haohao had left the house hastily that morning and had only put on a pair of flat shoes. Normally she was still shorter than Liang Chen, even when wearing heels. Now, she had to tilt her head up to maintain eye contact with him.
Neither of them had spoken a word, simply standing in silence.
After an inordinate amount of time, Liang Chen finally spoke, asking, “Why are you out here alone in such heavy snow?”
His voice was just as pleasing as ever, exactly how she remembered it. Jing Haohao felt a dull ache in her chest, and her eyes began to sting. Meeting his gaze with her clear, discernable eyes, after a long pause, she managed to steady her tumultuous emotions. She finally spoke, maintaining a calm, fluent tone, “I am just out for a casual stroll.”
Liang Chen noticed a layer of snow had settled onto Jing Haohao’s black hair. A subconscious thought crossed his mind; he wanted to reach out from his pocket to brush away the snowflakes. But as his hand stretched out halfway, he closed it back into a fist, retracting it into his pocket. He averted his gaze slightly, “The weather is bad, you should head home early.”
His tone sounded somewhat cold, no different than to an ordinary person, lacking the former overt concern for her.
Snow fluttered down ceaselessly, with the wind’s mournful howl.
Jing Haohao looked at Liang Chen, not uttering a word, yet her eyes gradually filled with unshed tears.
She never anticipated that their impromptu encounter on the street would culminate into such a cool indifference.
Jing Haohao bowed her head slightly, just as tears threatened to spill forth. Afraid she’d start crying if she stayed any longer, she swallowed hard, excused herself, “I’m sorry, but I need to be going now.”
P.S: Liang Chen, please hold her back~~~
