?Chapter 551: Chapter 552: Strangers (1) _1 Chapter 551: Chapter 552: Strangers (1) _1 In the span of just five days, Jing Haohao had bumped into Liang Chen twice, causing her to spend the entire night sleepless the prior evening. Consequently, she begins her next day at the office hiding behind dark circles under her eyes.
Drained and fatigued throughout the day, her concentration wavered frequently while she worked. It was already 4:30 in the afternoon when a hopeful Jing Haohao thought to herself that just one more hour at work and she’d be free for the weekend.
At ten to five, she was tasked with printing a document by the secretary.
By the time she finished printing, it was already twenty past five. Jing Haohao sat at her desk, about to start packing up to leave when suddenly the CEO’s secretary let out a low scream, exclaiming, “Lucy.”
She lifted her head, looked around, and asked, “Where’s Lucy?”
“She probably left for the day.”
“Oh no!” exclaimed the secretary. Frantically, she picked up the phone on her desk, dialing Lucy’s number. There was no answer after trying twice. Just as she was about to dial for a third time, the CEO emerged from his office. The secretary promptly stood up and said, “Mr. Chen, I informed you yesterday that I have to care for my mother at the hospital tonight, and therefore cannot accompany you to the bidding dinner. I originally arranged for Lucy to go instead but she’s left already and I can’t reach her on the phone…”
As the secretary continued, Mr. Chen’s face grew increasingly stern. Her voice faded as she frantically looked around, her eyes landing on Jing Haohao. Pointing to Jing Haohao, she suggested, “Mr. Chen, perhaps Haohao could go instead?”
Mr. Chen’s gaze shifted to Jing HaoHao.
Jing Haohao, bewildered, looked back at both the secretary and Mr. Chen. She didn’t quite understand what was going on before the secretary spoke again, “I promise I’ll teach Haohao all the necessary protocols in the shortest possible time. Haohao is very bright, she has performed exceptionally well as an assistant. She would definitely handle this without issue.”
Only then did Mr. Chen’s visage slightly soften. He nodded, saying, “We depart at half-past six. Be quick.”
Once Mr. Chen re-entered his office, the secretary exhaled a sigh of relief before turning to Jing Haohao, pleading, “Haohao, I’m really sorry to burden you with this. Please, could you do me this favor and accompany Mr. Chen to the bidding dinner tonight? I’ll treat you to a fancy dinner next Monday night.”
While she was speaking, the secretary quickly pulled Jing Haohao into the dressing room, rummaged through her closet, then pushed a dress into Jing Haohao’s hands, saying, “Haohao, wear my dress for tonight. The bidding dinner will be attended by major companies from Jiangshan city. We cannot afford any slip-ups. If we secure this bid, I’ll suggest to Mr. Chen that you receive the commission for it.”
Jing Haohao, having never been a secretary, felt anxious about the event she knew nothing about. “What do I need to do?” she asked nervously.
“You don’t have to do anything, just sit by Mr. Chen’s side. If anyone talks to you, just smile and take a sip when offered a drink,” was the reply.
After briefing Jing Haohao on the important points, the secretary skillfully styled Jing’s hair and then applied natural-looking makeup to her face.
Once she had finished preparing Jing Haohao, she inspected her carefully one last time. Satisfied that everything was in order, she gave a reassuring nod to Jing Haohao, exclaiming, “Haohao, we’re counting on you tonight!”
