In her memory, Liang Chen was always flamboyant and domineering.
Even when Miss Jing left for the first time, he was only agitated, pacing back and forth in the room, trying to find out where Miss Jing had gone.
No one would believe; if such a scene were made public that this vulnerable man, crying like a child, was indeed the Young Emperor who ruled supreme and invincible in Jiangshan City.
…
The summers in Jiangshan City were hot and lengthy, stretching from May all the way to October.
Jiangshan City in October, from every angle, was stunningly beautiful.
The tall trees planted on both sides of the street changed their leaves from green to yellow and red. The rustling of leaves carpeting the ground could be heard under the wheels of cars and the footsteps of passersby.
The weather in October was somewhat chilly. Still, fashionable women wore summer dresses, displaying their long, delicate legs as they strutted down the street.
Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival, an atmosphere of family reunion peripheral the streets and lanes of Jiangshan City. Many people were hastily going home with boxes of mooncakes in their hands.
This Mid-Autumn Festival fell on a Friday, the last busy day of the week for office workers. Liang Chen had a fulfilling day – he signed a contract in the morning, attended a lunch meeting, then played mahjong with a leader from Beijing in the afternoon, leaving the table with a triumphant smile.
It being the Mid-Autumn Festival, by four in the afternoon, almost all work was wrapped up. Just as Liang Chen stepped out from “Flowing Time”, his phone in the pocket started ringing.
Pulling it out, he saw it was a call from the old house.
Liang Chen stared at his phone before answering. His mother’s voice came through the line, “Chen, it’s the Mid-Autumn Festival tonight, what time will you be home?”
Liang Chen glanced at the time, gave a number then hung up the phone.
His assistant saw him approaching from a distance and quickly got out of the car, opening the door for him.
Liang Chen ducked into the car, and while the assistant started it, he asked, “Mr. Liang, where to now?”
Liang Chen, with a frown, said after a moment of silence, “The usual place.”
The assistant didn’t say anything more, and smoothly drove Liang Chen to his “usual place”.
Liang Chen got out of the car, took the car keys from the assistant, and said, “You can leave now. It’s a holiday today.”
His assistant quickly thanked him and hurriedly crossed the street to hail a cab.
Liang Chen stood in front of the car, lost in thought for a moment, then took the keys from his pocket, unlocked the door before him and stepped inside.
The so-called “usual place” he was referring to was actually the “Eternal 8:30”.
Everything here remained the same – encircled by a tall wall. The outside view was obstructed by simple wooden boards, preventing outsiders from guessing what’s inside, adding an extra layer of intrigue.
Though it was located right in the heart of Jiangshan City, once the door was closed, it became a paradise in its own right. It was quiet and elegant, with beautiful ever-blossoming flowers taken care of by specialists, butterflies fluttering in the glass room, and songbirds filling the cage with sweet sounds.
Liang Chen slowly walked up to the glass room door, giving it a push. The wind chimes hanging at the entrance rang out a melodious sound.
There was a faint fragrance lingering in the glass room. Liang Chen slowly walked over to the hammock, lay down on it, closed his eyes, and let himself gently swing back and forth.
