?Chapter 513: Chapter 514: Marriage (6)_1 Chapter 513: Chapter 514: Marriage (6)_1 Once they were finished filling in their information, Liang Chen checked everything once more. Confirming no mistakes, he then signed all the documents.
The clerk took their information, keyed it all into the computer, then took two red booklets to the printer. The chattering sound of the printer rang out.
It was rhythmic, like a melody, echoing softly in Liang Chen’s heart each time it printed a line.
When the printer finally fell silent, Jing Haohao discovered her own hand was also slick with sweat.
It turned out that she wasn’t the only one feeling nervous through the process; Liang Chen was too.
The clerk took the two red booklets, stamped them, and then handed them over to Liang Chen and Jing Haohao with a smile, “Wishing you a happy life together.”
Liang Chen’s mouth curved into a smile, and he said, “Thank you,” taking the two red booklets. The happiness in his eyes appeared as if it might spill over at any second.
Last night, he hadn’t slept well, tossing and turning, constantly thinking about this moment. As Jing Haohao had slept peacefully, he had watched her for a long time, wishing he could take her straight to the civil affairs bureau immediately and have the marriage certificate processed overnight.
Now, the two red booklets had finally reached his hands. His heart, which had been in his throat all night, finally settled back into his chest.
The woman he had wanted to marry was now his wife.
Liang Chen stared at the two red booklets, feeling inexplicably sentimental. After a while, he handed Jing Haohao her booklet.
Jing Haohao accepted it, her palm feeling hot. She surprisingly found herself a married woman now.
…
As they left the civil affairs bureau, the sun was already high in the sky.
Instead of taking Jing Haohao back to the villa, Liang Chen drove straight out of Jiangshan City.
It took Jing Haohao a while to realize they weren’t heading home. Turning to Liang Chen, she asked, “Aren’t we going home?”
“There’s somewhere I want to take you to first.” Liang Chen responded, focusing on the road and increasing their speed a little.
The further they drove, the more familiar the surroundings became. It wasn’t until the old bridge of her small hometown came into view that Jing Haohao finally turned and asked Liang Chen, “Why are we going back to my hometown?”
Liang Chen simply smiled. He didn’t drive through the small town. Instead, he took a detour around the outer streets, heading towards the vast wheat fields outside. This was the harvest season, and the fields were covered with golden yellow waves as far as the eye could see.
Liang Chen turned the car into the fields, then stopped and said to Jing Haohao, “Let’s get out.”
Although Jing Haohao was confused, she obediently exited the car. The summer weather in her hometown was a little cooler than in Jiangshan City, and the wind carried the scent of the wheat fields with it.
In the distance, machines hummed away as they harvested the ripe wheat.
Every now and then, a Bugu Bird could be seen flying above the trees, its chirping “Bugu Bugu” filling the air.
As Liang Chen led Jing Haohao through the winding paths in the wheat fields, she slowly began to realize where he was taking her. She lifted her gaze towards Liang Chen’s back and her steps faltered slightly.
Unaware of Jing Haohao’s hesitation, Liang Chen kept walking until he arrived at two gravestones. He then turned around and met Jing Haohao’s eyes from a distance.
They were too far apart, and the sunlight made it difficult for Jing Haohao to read Liang Chen’s expression clearly. She took a deep breath, steadied herself, and then walked towards him.
