?Chapter 439: Chapter 440: Cold War (2)_1 Chapter 439: Chapter 440: Cold War (2)_1 Jing Haohao’s sensitive demeanor, full of hesitation to speak, was entirely within Liang Chen’s sight. With an astuteness most others lacked, he knew it signaled her total unwillingness to engage with him.

Liang Chen gazed at Jing Haohao’s beautiful face, his eyes flickering ever so slightly. He asked, “I am going down to buy some food, what would you like to eat?”

As if not hearing Liang Chen’s voice, Jing Haohao didn’t even look at him, she just nonchalantly stared out the car window, not making a sound.

Liang Chen’s throat bobbed, he moved closer to Jing Haohao and murmured, “Haohao, we haven’t eaten anything since noon. It’s still over an hour to the airport. Why don’t you come down and see what you’d like to eat and grab it?”

Jing Haohao still did not say a word, merely lazily shifted her body and closed her eyes again.

Liang Chen lowered his gaze, and the voice that next came out was still calm, containing not the slightest trace of anger. “Haohao, wait here in the car. I’ll go and get you something.”

Jing Haohao with her eyes closed looked serene beyond measure. If she were not sitting right in front of him, he would’ve thought he was talking to air.

Liang Chen looked intensely at Jing Haohao for a long time, he unbuckled his seatbelt ready to leave the car when something appeared to occur to him. He pulled out the car keys, locked the doors, and headed into the rest stop’s convenience store.

Liang Chen quickly returned, carrying several large bags. He unlocked the car and put the stuff before Jing Haohao, “I wasn’t sure what you liked so I got one of everything.”

Jing Haohao, with her eyes still closed, did not stir, didn’t even raise an eyelid.

Liang Chen pursed his lips, waited for a full two minutes before speaking softly, “I’ll leave the food here for you. Eat when you’re hungry.”

After his words settled, Liang Chen sighed softly after another two minutes. He started the engine and gently put his foot on the accelerator, steering the car back onto the highway.

During the rest of the drive, Liang Chen kept glancing at Jing Haohao through the rear-view mirror. If not for the faint movement of her eyes under her eyelids, he would have thought she fell asleep.

Deep down, he knows that she wants nothing more than for him to disappear from her life completely and swiftly. He understands that no one can forgive what he did, forcing her with the intimate photos. His joy at knowing she was safe, after rushing a thousand miles to pick her up, was entirely obliterated.

In his life, he had never humbugged anyone. But now, he was exhausting every trick to please her.

Even though it’s unappreciated.

He can only blame himself for pushing their relationship beyond repair.

Again and again, he assured himself, no matter how much Jing Haohao detested him now, as long as she was with him, he had to control his temper to avoid hurting her further.

It didn’t matter if she disliked him. As long as he loved her with all his heart, it was enough.

If love required both people to feel the same, he would love for the both of them.

Although Liang Chen comforted himself this way, his heart felt as if it had plunged into an icy abyss, freezing and desolate.

Liang Chen and Jing Haohao reached the airport at half-past four. They hurriedly checked in and boarded the aircraft through the VIP lane.
