?Chapter 377: Chapter 378: After the Harm, There’s No Forgiveness (3)_1 Chapter 377: Chapter 378: After the Harm, There’s No Forgiveness (3)_1 Liang Chen hung up and put his cell phone back in his pocket. He was staring at Jing Haohao who had already walked to the side of the road. After swallowing saliva nervously, he took out his phone again and dialed another number. “I’m at Lavender Manor. Have the driver bring the spare key from home and drive here.”
After ending the call, Liang Chen opened the car door, pulled out his trench coat and put it on. He stuffed his wallet into his pocket, locked his car, and followed the direction where Jing Haohao had gone.
…
Jing Haohao did not know where to go. She was aimlessly wandering along the deserted outskirts roads, randomly choosing a direction and proceeding forward.
Her mind was utterly blank, devoid of any conscious thought. All she was doing was walking, unaware of how long she had been walking. She had unwittingly walked into the downtown area of Jiangshan City.
She had not eaten anything except breakfast, yet she felt no indication of hunger. Her legs were so tired that they were numb, but she had no intention of stopping. She just kept walking along the road with cars coming and going, in a daze.
Liang Chen was following her from fifty meters away. With his usual habit of vigorous exercise, his physical stamina was remarkable. He was starting to feel a bit tired by now but he never interrupted the woman who was walking like a lost soul. He just followed her quietly from a distance.
Jing Haohao walked from noon till dusk. The neon lights in Jiangshan City gradually started to light up one by one, but she showed no sign of stopping.
In mid-March in Jiangshan City, the evening temperature wasn’t much different than winter. Jing Haohao was wearing a formal dress with a thin coat over it. She felt so cold that her body was shivering. Yet she had no thoughts of going home. She just hugged her shoulders and walked aimlessly, like a wandering ghost.
After an indeterminate length of time, Jing Haohao reached the most bustling part of Jiangshan City. Although it was late at night, people were coming and going. Jing Haohao was in the crowd, dragging her numb feet, slowly walking forward. As she passed a shop, the melodious song coming from inside arrested her attention, making her stop in her tracks.
“I discovered too late that loving you had become a habit. I learned to lie just like you do. You always wanted me by your side, saying that happiness is like shepherding. The heaven you gave me, in reality, was desolation.”
Jing Haohao listened fascinatedly. The lyrics seemed to conjure up the moments she and Shen Liangnian had shared over the past ten years.
“If I could have cut off from you sooner, we wouldn’t have had to reluctantly love each other. But I don’t have enough courage, always nervous and soft-hearted for you. After all, it’s a love affair, no one should bear a hurt.”
It was during such a season, a season when winter gave way for spring, she had been washing his clothes by the river with icy water and had accidentally fallen into the lake. That was the first time she had tasted the flavor of death because of him.
Last autumn, she didn’t want to part with him. To resist Liang Chen, she recklessly drove her car into a bridge column, wanting to protect their love even if it meant death. That was the second time she tasted the flavor of death because of him.
A person only has one life, yet she had twice almost died for him.
At this thought, Jing Haohao’s eyes welled up with tears. She lifted her head, and the melodious song still lingered around her.
“If you no longer want it, if you want to quit, you should do it early. I’m not insisting on growing old together.”
