He lifted his head and saw Jing Haohao wearing a warm-colored, oversized pajama, with one hand pushing the door and the other holding a glass of water.
The calm light outside the villa shone softly on her, highlighting her fair complexion. On her wrist that held the glass of water, still hung the three stones he gave her, shimmering with a broken glimmer.
Liang Chen stared at Jing Haohao for quite a while before asking, “Where’s Nanny Lin?”
Jing Haohao lifted the cup and drank all the water in one gulp, saying, “She must be asleep now.”
Liang Chen nodded without further conversation. He simply pocketed the car keys and headed towards his room.

Upon returning to his bedroom, Liang Chen went directly into the bathroom and soaked for a long while. When he came out, he saw Jing Haohao tucked in bed watching TV. He paused briefly, surprised that she wasn’t asleep yet, then grabbed a towel to dry his hair and got into the bed.
Watching Liang Chen lie down, Jing Haohao thought he was going to sleep so she turned off the TV, along with the living room’s light, and laid down as well.
The room fell very silent; no conversation took place between the two.
Liang Chen laid beside her, his nose filled with a faint fragrance from her body.
But in his mind, he kept thinking about all the calls he had received at his office during the day, and an uneasiness, which he had never experienced before, kept arising within him.
Jing Haohao couldn’t fall asleep too. Recently, she had been sharing a bed with Liang Chen every night. Regardless of whether or not they made love, he’d always hold her. But now they were lying down properly, with some distance in between them, which made her feel something was off.
Unable to help herself, Jing Haohao turned over, now with her back towards Liang Chen.
Liang Chen felt Jing Haohao move. He turned his head and upon seeing her slender back, could not help but ask, “Not asleep yet?”
After quite a while, Jing Haohao finally answered in a soft voice, “Mmm.”
“Nanny Lin mentioned someone came looking for you at the villa today?”
Upon hearing Liang Chen bring up this matter, Jing Haohao’s heart tightened slightly, and she responded again with a “Mmm.”
“Who was it?”
There were surveillance cameras all over the villa’s yard. Since Nanny Lin informed him that she had stepped out, he might have already had someone check the license plate of the visitor’s vehicle.
After pondering for a while, Jing Haohao decided to answer honestly, “It was Qiao Wennuan.”
“What did she want from you?”
Jing Haohao did not answer for a long while. Just as Liang Chen thought she didn’t want to respond, she slightly turned towards him.
She carefully observed Liang Chen’s gaze and seeing no signs of danger, she pulled her lips into a smile. She vaguely answered, “No particular reason, just went for a little stroll.”
Knowing the truth, Liang Chen instinctively spoke in a deep, questioning tone, “Just a little stroll?”
Jing Haohao was already wondering whether Liang Chen knew about her meeting with Shen Liangnian. Hearing his question now, her whole body tensed up in a flash. She was worried that if Liang Chen knew everything, he would take action against Shen Liangnian, so her hand was restlessly squeezing the sheet underneath.
Liang Chen saw the clear fear that surfaced in Jing Haohao’s eyes. His heart was instantly filled with regret.
