Liang Chen looked at a lifeless Shen Liangnian. The anger that had inexplicably lodged in his heart since knowing Shen Liangnian and Qiao Wennuan’s troubles had subsided quite a bit.
Shen Liangnian remained silent for a long while, and Liang Chen had no intention to speak either. The whole office was incredibly quiet.
The late autumn sunlight shone brightly on the floor-to-ceiling windows on the south side of the office, projecting a large circle of light in the room and casting long shadows from the furnishings.
After an indeterminate amount of time, the weather turned dreary in an instant, and the sunlight disappeared. Clumsily, he steadied himself on the door handle, took several deep breaths to calm his emotions, and finally stepped out, dragging his feet as though they weighed a thousand pounds.
Liang Chen remained in the same position, sitting on the sofa, watching through the glass as Shen Liangnian’s figure grew more distant. However, he didn’t feel the slightest sense of satisfaction from his victory.
If anything, his heart felt like the sudden change in the weather outside – overcast and oppressively somber.
