Chapter 164: Library of Xion
Chapter 164: Library of Xion
"We will descend here, its a no fly zone"
After flying for a while, they stopped in the very middle of the city.
"Ohhh??" Looking downwards Leon squinted his brows in surprise and awe. In the middle of the city was a massive building spanning several blocks.
It was circular in shape and had attached to it several smaller buildings making one belive that this building was very important.
This was the library of Xion
Leon didn’t know this, but the places was much bigger than the Dukes residence itself.
—fuuuuuuu
Soon all of them descended to the ground and slowly made their way to one of the doors of the library. The way the library building was designed, it had several windows the size of doors and a shape akin to that of a Colosseum.
As for the doors? They were massive beyond belief.
—cing
The door slowly parted and Leon gracefully followed in with the warlock while looking around in admiration. This place was truly well designed and its ambience was just breathtaking.
"We want 4 oath papers and entry Library cards" the warlock approached a counter and requested from a lady behind the counter.
The lady then adjusted her glasses before scanning Leon and his group. The library of Xion was a big deal in the dukedom, in fact, this library was even older than the Dukedom itself...the Dukes men had to respect them.
"Here" the lady didn’t waste too much time and pulled out several pieces of paper before handing over.
The library, like any other demanded the people who enter not only pay a fee, but also demanded a way of identification.
They couldn’t let thieves in here after all.
"Fill these and pay the fee" the warlock presented Leon and the others the documents and asked that they fill them.
Leon filled himself as a member of a branch of the BloodSerpent clan, then Arian and Ember filled that they were his servants.
As for Ben and his two sons, they didn’t need Leon to help them forging documents. It came aa second instincts to them.
"Good, good." Seeing their cooperation the warlock nodded in satisfaction. Leon and the rest didn’t seem to be trouble makers. They were agreeable to their term....of course, he’s next move would determine what they really were
"An oath? Why do we have to swear oaths?" Leon frowned as the warlock presented him with a piece of paper.
It was an oath Agreement.
"It’s for security" replying sharply, the warlock said.
The oath contained several things that rotated around Leon and the rest not participating in the upcoming war....that wasn’t what sent alarms through Leon’s mind.
It was the fact that in this contract there was text that indicated that they were to fight if called upon.
It was ludicrous.
He didn’t want to get involved in any war, why must he pick a side if he wanted to read a few books ? It made no sense.
"Can we alter the contract a little bit?:" Leon looked the warlock dead in the eye and asked.
"I’m afraid not" the warlock replied firmly with his back straightened. Why would they compromise the safety of their Dukedom for these guys?
"Okay then i guess we don’t have any business here" Leon shook his head. He didn’t like signing insincere contracts, it would lead to issues.
Leon immediately turned around to walk off but the next second the lady behind the counters expression changed as she looked ugly at the warlock.
"Shit!! Wait, you don’t have to swear" the warlock stretched his hand forward and said hurriedly.
Yes, the oath was a thing Implemented by the Dukes people to help with the up coming battle. They needed all the hands they could get or at least to male such that those In the city wouldn’t be used by the enemy.
Unfortunately, they were acting on their own volition and the library had its own rules.
"Ahhh? Is that so?" Leon asked with a smirk, he knew something seemed fishy. These guys were working hand in hand to trick visitors.
"Yes yes, you can go in after paying the fee" the warlock said begrudgingly....their plan failed this time and it was with a team this big
It was a disaster.
"Haha," Leon smiled and paid the fee and collected his library card.
It seemed like there was something more to the libation than actually met the eyes, if not why was a warlock at level under the Duke trying to trick visitors?
It wasn’t until Leon arrived at the center of the library that he realized that there might be some truth to his assumptions.
"Wow" Arian and Ember exclaimed in surprise as they set their eyes on the scene before them.
Books!! As far as the eyes could see, plus the number of warlocks and mages here was massive and they didn’t seem to be from the Dukes men.
There was definitely something more to this place.
"More tea"
In a private booth above the libraries center, a fairly aged man with a bald head and monk robes looked down at beckoned over as he looked down at the library.
The center of the library was circular I’m shape and had rolls upon rolls of books stretching from the very top to an underground pit.
Denoting several hidden levels.
"Yes elder!!!" A young kid rushed forward with a kettle and poured the old man a cup of blazing hot tea.
The tea had been boiled to the extent that it could easily peel off the skin. However, it didn’t seem to bother the elder one bit.
He only kept his eyes trained at the library below him.
Another thing to be noted about this man was the massive eye in the middle of his head.
A third eye.
"Hehe, knew arrivals, I wonder if today will be interesting" the man said jokingly as he stared at Leon’s figure.
He looked amused, yet uninterested by their arrival.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
"Welcome to Xion library sirs and madams, what would you like to read?"
As Leon and the rest stared In awe at the books, a young female attendant came forward and asked.
"Hmm weird" Ember quickly left a snide remark before looking away. This wasn’t a restaurant, why was this lady coming up to them speaking about books like it was a delicious meal?
Hearing this comment, the young lady couldn’t help but frown. The great library of Xion was a national treasure that anyone would kill to read from.
So yes, to the right people it was like a delicious meal. Clearly this young brat infront of her had to culture and was spoilt.
"My apologies, have fun sight seeing" the young lady said to Ember before turning around to leave.
They weren’t scholars and didn’t understand the importance of books, they were just tourists or something. She should speed her time on reading so she won’t waste it on them
"Hold on, I would like to read a few books"
Before she could leave completely, Leon called for her attention causing her to look back back involuntarily.
"Ohh, another kid" the young lady seemed excited at first, but when she noticed that Leon was probably some 17 year old, her excitement dulled. Just like Ember, he was probably going to waste her time.
"Hehe, take me to the history section" Leon walked up to the lady and said. At this moment, she realised that Leon was way taller than her.
It was like an optical illusion how she saw him previously, though....he Still lacked the maturity in his face.
"Okay, this way"
After looking Leon over she directed him to follow her around the library. She had no choice than to show him what he wanted to see. After all it was her job.
"Yawnnn," back at the group, Ben Yoel yawned then preceeded to take a seat somewhere. He was never the type to get excited by books so he would sit this one out.
As for Arian she actually picked up several and went to sit in a corner.
"Hmp!!" Noticing Arian’s movements, Ember frowned and walked to a bookshelf too.
She didn’t want to be outshone by Arian for some reason.
"Hmmm, saints of Antiquity huh?" Ember looked at the tilted of the book in her hand and sighed. It sounded so boring, but she had to read so as not to seem unserious.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
"Antiquity Era"
"Lizon period"
"Forgotten period"
Down two steps from where Leon and the rest entered the library, the young lady show Leon around the history section.
The history of finor world was broad, so much so that, even in lost periods and eras, they could still find materials and information laying around. So it was easy to compile.
"Nice collection, very well packaged" Leon complimented the library’s catalogue. There was so much here he could learn from.
The system’s Ai was a bit limited as it seemed like the primogenitor of the warlocks might have been banished for at least 3 millennia.
He had to stock up on recent information and this was the place to do so.
