Chapter 104: Undercurrents
Chapter 104: Undercurrents
"Brother badur" Carlson walked forward and shook Leon firmly. Once he appeared at the gate, he knew it was Leon.
Sadly, Leon was too quick to act and had Arian beat up the guards before he could step in. Before he knew it, Leon was knocking on his father’s door.
"Uhhhhhh, what’s going on Down here?" The first thing that came to mind was this question. This wasn’t a normal black smiths’ smithy. It looked like some mass production operation.
Leon’s mind was going wild with possibilities.
"Ehhhh, it’s nothing serious" Carlson was not at liberty to explain…though he would come to understand sooner or late.
The undercurrents of duan city were massive. Like a massive cooking pot about to burst, or a volcano about to erupt.
The warlocks were increasing in number and power, and the mages couldn’t allow it. They knew in due time there would be a decisive battle. One that would determine who would helm over duan city.
So they had to prepare now.
"I want you to meet someone" Carlson clamped Leon’s shoulder and said firmly. Then he proceeded to lead them across the area.
This smithy looked simple, there was a massive work area spanning from where Leon walked in from all the way to the edge of the area.
There a curtained door stood.

Carlson opened up the curtains and stepped into the room. In it were several bulky men inscribing inscriptions on the tools in front of them.
"Father" Carlson called out to a man seated on a far away bench with his eyes focused on some pieces of paper.
"Hm?" The man raised his head and looked over at Carlson with frustration. He was trying to improve productivity of the smithy and had so many deadlines and yet, Carlson found away to constantly disturb him.
"This is the guy" Carlson said.
And as soon as those words left his mouth, the man’s face turned ugly.

From out of nowhere, he rushed Leon. In but a few seconds, he wrapped his arm around Leon’s neck and said.
"We have a lot to talk about" then he dragged Leon towards his workbench.
He was having a peaceful time before his good for nothing son appeared from out of the blue, asking him to forge a magic treasure.
He was a busy man, so he refused outrightly. But Carlson pressed him until he accepted, but upon opening the ’design’ he was stunned.
It was completely impractical, rubbish even, but the more he looked through the design the more interested he became.
However, after so many tires he couldn’t quite get the results stipulated in the designs.
"I don’t know where you got this design from, kid, but it’s too impractical, and I can’t determine if it was picked up on the streets or made by a genius... I mean, why would you place 3 Advanced storage gems at the hilt of the dagger?
Isn’t that overkill? But then again, why not? But what kind of material can stand this level of burts....."
The old man began a long rant about how impractical this treasure was, it seemed like he was scolding Leon for wasting his time.
However, Leon could tell that the old man in truth only wanted to know how he should go about this weapon and how Leon came up with the idea.
He had been forging for dozens of years, never had he been so stumped by a weapon. It defied all the norms of forging in this world...but at the same time it was genius.
"Welll, it’s not that hard...firstly, about the gems. There’s a circuit for that, I’m not as well versed but"
Leon explained to the old man how they needed to go about it. He would have tried to forge it himself, but he was afraid of making something too out of sorts for this world, so he used the system to formulate someone closely tied to this world’s forging system.
If he needed a special weapon, he would need the strength to keep it. This would do for now.
"How’s everything going with your wife" at the back, Arian asked Carlson.
She had heard of what Carlson did and as a woman wad very disappointed at him. Leaving a woman on her engagement day? Then frequently dodging her? He was worse than scum in the eyes of every woman.
"Ah….so you heard about that too" scratching his head roughly, Carlson was embarrassed.
Most people got him wrong. It wasn’t like he wouldn’t take responsibility for her, he just required time and strength. He didn’t just want to be a useless husband, he wanted to be able to protect her.
If he didn’t get stronger, she could be left to solve all their problems. He didn’t like that, he wanted to be useful to her.

The old man had begun working on forging again. He assumed that Leon was a genius in the theoretical aspect of forging, but when it came to real forging, he was a big deal.
Being one of the few users of the water fall forging technique, he was the top most forger in the Waterway family household. No one could compete.
If not for the uniqueness of the design and his son Carlson putting pressure, Leon wouldn’t be able to afford him.
"So Carlson...what about the thing, did you get any information?" At the back, Leon asked Carlson. He didn’t care for the real name, he knew Carlson as Carlson and that was all he needed.
"Ahh, yes quite a few actually….but it’s quite disturbing" Carlsson held unto his chin
He asked around about the brute if duan city and even though all research and knowledge pointed to him dying of old age.
Some elders of the clan had subtly agreed with the fact that he was still alive.
But they also pointed something else out, it looked like they were insinuating that he had dabbled in devil magic to attain a long life span….but it left him less than human.
