Chapter 1006: Game-ending bug [1/2]
"Ahhh, that feels so good," I couldn't help but exhale in bliss.
Before me was a large boar or what was left of it. My Avatars and I had a field day bashing the living crap out of it. We were allowing my children to heal it back into health for another round. Frankly, it felt like I was in a trance earlier; I couldn't even see anything else.
'It is a good thing Henry already stopped him from running as a Reaper. Otherwise, it would have been hard.'
I learned early on that Rashid couldn't undo his soulform. Without his gigantic boar form, a single 30mm round would turn him into soup. He tried earlier. But my son Henry, being a vengeful little shit, instead trampled over him with the M5s.
'My son's foresight let me enjoy myself with few disruptions,' I thought, grateful.
In the session I just had, I entered my own world. In it, my rage, my weapon, and the boar were all that existed. Although while I was successful in venting, I was never able to recreate my first strike.
'The power of that blow was enough to dismember the boar's legs and tear apart its face in one strike. Why can't I recreate it?'
All my succeeding attacks had only a fraction of that one. And I couldn't figure out why. I had Saturday and Sunday to experiment with the boar's pillar-like legs. Rashid couldn't even run as my two bodies each kept destroying two limbs at a time.
Saturday took the forelegs while Sunday took the hind legs. Our targets were the large clump of muscle at the elbow. It was the weakest point and the most satisfying to destroy. But no matter how much we concentrated, we couldn't exhibit power comparable to the first strike.
'Although the [Jackhammer] is definitely a useful feature, I wonder if I can rework it somehow.'
When Friday tried to mochi bash the boar's balls, it led to catastrophic results. Basically, unless I spun like a wheel as Thursday did with the back, I was too slow. Despite having all the {Fates} of {Carry} applied to make me move faster, it was still not enough.
Basically, as Alfonso and Exa used an IF-{Reload} on the Challenger 2's L30A1 120 mm rifled tank gun. And it shot way faster than intended. It wasn't just one shell per second. It was almost like an assault rifle. Three shells left the barrel every second.
And as I tried to outpace the healing, I threw my body into my strikes. Which turned into a recipe for disaster as my body was too close to the gigantic balls.
"Sigh, who knew I would get shot by Alfonso instead?"
To compensate, I created the {Program} [Jackhammer]. It canceled the recovery period of my strikes using a partial {Rewind}.
Rather than {Rewind} my entire body, I only rewound my arms and my weapon. It created a new way for me to fight. I could now swing down with all my might and follow up with exactly the same attack less than a second later.
"The swing itself wastes too much time. What if we could generate the momentum but keep my limbs in place? Like a charging stance. That way I could release the potential swings in one moment for maximum damage," I mused.
I remember reading a similar principle in a Japanese light novel. In it, the side character's sword had the power of time. He could manipulate his swings to appear at a specific moment he wished. The character then used this concept to carve an entire area in advance.
When the enemy finally attacked, a large group of flying monsters met a brutal end. A minefield of powerful, time-denying slashes carved them into confetti. It was incredibly cool and stuck with me. It was like a delayed slash that could be used at will.
I didn't have the power of time, but maybe I could use the power of {Rewind} somehow.
[Daddy! All limbs restored. Are you tired? Do you want a break?]
"Thanks, Sabel. Maybe I do. Exa."
[Yes, my lord?]
"I want to work on something, have the children knock the pig around. I want to develop something. They can beat it until it's about dead, but I want it back in one piece by the time I need him."
[I understand, my lord. Children, did you hear that?]
[Yep, I can finally shred this motherfucker. Oy! Alfonso, no cutting in line!]
[Stop complaining because you are too indecisive, Henry. Father and Grandmother have already given their blessings.]
[Ah! No fair! Al-Al! Ry-Ry! Wait for me!]
And so, the soulless then all turned their guns to the boar. Only this time they were no longer using {Restore} rounds. They looked like a pack of hungry sharks. Then, they unleashed a hailstorm of gunfire and ordnance at the Shifter.
[What are you doing, Alfonso? You played with Number 1 the longest! If we all beat this fucker, he is definitely going to die! Switch to {Restore} shells!]
[I refuse. I am the family's firstborn; I need to protect you two! And this is my right! IF-{RELOAD}! Firing Red APFSDS! DIE, YOU INSOLENT SACK OF PORK!!]
[NOOO!!! STUPID AL-AL! RY-RY USE {RESTORE} ROUNDS! QUICK!! OR DADDY IS GOING TO BE ANGRY! GRAN-GRAN! AL-AL is being a stupid prick!]
[This is fucking tyranny! Stop pulling excuses out of your ass, Alfonso! Why in the world would you even need to fucking protect us from this pork chop?]
[None of my weapon platforms have an ass; your argument is invalid, little brother.]
[Stop playing with your food, you little shits! Or Lady Bella is going to rip my code apart!]
I ignored the arguments my children were having. It was fun to see them horsing around with a boar the size of a building. Due to its immense size, even Alfonso's 120 mm cannon, the biggest gun we have, could only blow a chunk off the pig.
'I want a trump card. Something that I can use to hit a Revenant or an Archdemon with.'
Feeling like I was onto something, I unsummoned all my avatars. While they could do everything I did, for absolute focus, one brain was still the best.
"Let's see [Jackhammer] use a partial rewind of my limbs. I still swing but magically return to my starting position for a second strike. How would I do the same thing, except that the energy doesn't disperse?"
The problem with repeating motions was that they had instantaneous transfers of energy. This meant that each swing would send the energy from my weapon to the target. [Jackhammer] had only one purpose. It eliminated the actions needed to return to my starting position.
'Besides, I don't fight with swords; I do so with guns. If I could apply the same principle to a bullet, I could empower it like I used to do with [Strike] and {Counter}.'
Unsure of what I needed to do, I ended up looking toward the end of my weapon. It was blood red and had large pieces of meat impaled on the spikes. The combination of Faker weaponry and {Fates} was amazing. My Faker Morning Star was a good proof of concept.
We could not apply {Fates} to Faker material. But, if we combined it with other materials and used {Fates} on them, it was possible. Unknowingly, I ended up using the same route the Saints did for mass blessings.
Rather than bless a single bullet, they blessed the ingot that made the bullets to save time. It made sense as the casing nor the gunpowder didn't really need the blessings to begin with. The only part that made it to the undead was the lead rounds.
