Chapter 159: Kylo’s Arrival
Chapter 159: Kylo’s Arrival
The next afternoon.
Kylo’s group finally entered the Peace Base after the preliminary virus check. And because they weren’t wearing uniforms, and didn’t want to make a scene, they followed the standard procedures for civilians.
It was quite peaceful and there were very few people making a scene despite the number of refugees. At the very least, the show of power and implementation of discipline was still very good.
As expected of General Lee.
Eventually, they passed the initial screening without any event except for not-a-few stares for their aura (and the major’s handsomeness).
None of the cadets recognized any of them, however, because they were assigned to completely different cities and the lower-ranked soldiers had almost no interaction with each other pre-apocalypse.
This was fine, because they wanted to be able to see the base for what it was.
The group observed this new base, its people and its forces. They saw that it was relatively organized and people seemed to have a bit of hope in their eyes, which was mild ahead of other basis around.
They were relieved to see it was being handled well.
The group continued to walk, with Kylo and Chris looking around, wondering where they would find their respective women.
Kylo looked beside him and to the nearest guarding soldier, who was stationed to keep order near the entrance.
"Soldier!"
"Sir!" The lad yelled, automatically saluting.
In fact, it wasn’t that they didn’t notice these newcomers. It was because Kylo and the others were in casual clothes, and therefore the soldiers couldn’t greet them like the military, despite the oozing of the aura.
Now that he was called, the cadet could only salute by instinct.
"I want to speak with General Lee." Kylo said, "Tell them Major Murong has arrived."
M-Major?!
"Yes, sir!" He said, immediately asking the other guards to watch his area. He then led the team in a direction. The other soldiers also saluted them, watching them go towards the boss of the base.
They traversed street after street, and passed by more of the territory, with the newcomers taking note of the status of the place.
It was just that after some time, they seemed to have passed what should be the central building and headed somewhere else.
"Where are we going, soldier?" Kylo as he strid, making a mental map of the place in his head.
The soldier flinched and saluted again to explain. "Sir! He should be in the medbay."
Kylo’s eyebrows met at this. "What happened to him?"
"He was poisoned sir."
"What?" He asked, his steps pausing, before walking again to their destination with an increased pace. "Is he alright now?"
The soldier nodded and his expression turned dreamy. "Yes, the General almost died, but Ms. Khalifa saved his life!"
"Khalifa?" Kylo and the others looked at the soldier, very surprised. However, the soldier didn’t notice this as he just looked dreamy, no doubt fantasizing about his woman in front of him.
Kylo wanted to electrocute him awake.
Fortunately for the soldier, he snapped out of his daze very quickly to tell what he knew of the story—which wasn’t much, but there were plenty of nurses around there, and they didn’t exactly have tight lips.
It had also been spread by one of the kicked out male nurses from before that Khalifa’s body was even more beautiful than the sex video!
"She is very powerful and beautiful. There’s no one like her."
"Indeed," Kylo agreed without thinking, his lips tilted a little with a smile.
"Sir?"
The people in his team ’in-the-know’ couldn’t help but cackle behind them, though they tried very hard not to laugh out loud.
One of which was Olaf, a plain-looking blonde, who was one of the combat medics of the team. He was there not only when Kylo rescued Ms. Khalifa from Prance and carried her frantically to the hospital, he was also there when he kissed her before they parted.
He was now red and tearing, trying to hold back his laugh.
Kylo seemed to have noticed his gaffe and cleared his throat, his ears turning slightly red.
"Focus," he said, his baritone voice oozing with authority. His men immediately stopped laughing and continued on behaving like soldiers.
Kylo nodded at this and cleared his throat, continuing their way. They soon arrived outside the medbay, with the guiding soldier saluting before gesturing to go. He didn’t know the room, but they should be able to find their way at this point.
"Wait," Kylo uttered out, and the soldier paused in puzzlement.
"Sir?"
"Have someone call Khalifa. Tell her Kylo has arrived."
The soldier was a little surprised by the request, but saluted obediently. "Sir, yes, sir!" He said, internally intrigued, vowing to find out more about this gossip after his work hours.
But Kylo didn’t know the gossipmonger nature of this particular soldier. He only nodded in acknowledgement and went into the medbay to check on the General.
Their grand entrance naturally attracted a lot of attention. Olaf went to the counter and smiled charmingly, "Can we know where General Lee’s room is?" He asked and the nurse blushed
He was not handsome but he was confident and was a soldier—and that was attractive.
"Ah, it’s… in room 008A on the left wing," she said, pointing at a hallway and dictating the direction.
"Thanks~" Olaf said and the girl nodded.
The group then proceeded towards the room. However, in one of the intersections, a soft feminine voice sounded not too far away.
"Chris!"
Chris froze at the familiar voice, whipping his head to her direction. Immediately, his entire being brightened, "Claire!" He yelled, carelessly walking past another person to the woman he loved.
The two embraced like there was no one around, worried hearts finally settled at the feeling of the other’s warmth.
Ryo—who was rudely passed by— looked away, eyes brewing with some emotions.
"Ryo."
He flinched at the sound of the familiar baritone voice.
He cleared the complications and faced his Uncle, saluting. "Uncle!"
Kylo nodded, looking at his nephew with an expression of approval. "Good job on the base."
Ryo blinked, unused to receiving his uncle’s compliment. "Uh… yeah. Thank you," he said, trying not to stutter.
And, to some degree, the rare compliment did make him feel a little better.
