Chapter 106: Port
Chapter 106: Port
The next day the ignored universal phone—which Hugo secretly put on silent since the last time he called—vibrated crazily again.
He carefully hovered over Khalifa’s adorable sleeping self to get the phone, answering it.
"Khalifa? Thank goodness you answ—"
"It’s me."
"Hugo!" Kaize yelled, and Hugo’s eyes twitched as he scratched his poor ears.
"I didn’t know you were a shrew."
"Where’s Khalifa?"
He lazily placed a hand behind his head, lounging on the bed, eyes on the beautiful woman beside him with a warm smile.
He couldn’t help but slide the hand on his back to her back and she cutely buried her head in his embrace. He chuckled.
"She’s sleeping. Don’t bother her."
Heavy breathing could be heard on the other side. That guy was definitely trying to calm himself down.
"You bastard. She’s my woman!"
"It never bothered you to share before."
"Hugo… stop it." He said, "She is not like your other women!"
"You think I don’t know that?"
Kaize continued to inhale and exhale, trying to stop himself from exploding. "Well, you’ve tasted her. Get her back to our Home."
This placed a little sting in Hugo and he frowned. "Who said I’m satisfied with just a taste?"
"HUGO—"
"Anyway, she’s deeply asleep. Call later." He said as soon as he felt her move a bit.
And he hung up.

"That bastard!!" Kaize yelled, almost throwing out the universal phone.
"Why?" Caius asked, eyebrows furrowed. When he found out that the call had finally connected, he had already sat beside Kaize.
"She really found another guy." Kaize said as he rubbed his red head in annoyance. "He’s quite troublesome."
Caius frowned and his fist clenched. "As long as she’s safe…"
A moment of silence passed by the two, absorbing the news.
After a while, Kaize couldn’t handle the depression and headed towards the door, taking out the machete he brought and tied the gun on his back, ready to be accessed when they had to.
They were currently in the base at the port, clearing up the zombies near the island.
A zombie fight was just what they needed at this time, a decent alternative to flying all the way there and stabbing Hugo to death.
Cauis didn’t stop him. Instead he took out his axe and similarly placed a gun on his back.
Although they had a lot of guns, it was still a finite resource. Anyway, Khalifa said the best time to gather strength was at the beginning. They needed to be strong to protect her and their home.
And they also had to be strong enough to handle her other men.
With this thought, the two determinedly went out the door to the gates going out to battle.
"I’ll prepare lunch, masters." It was Ugo, the butler they hired for this property. He was a dark skinned man advanced in age, and they took him in because of his stellar record, good character, and the fact that he had no family to worry about.
He was also a war veteran, so they could trust him to defend their property to some extent.
"Yes, please." Cauis said, and followed Kaize out the gated home.
The past few days they had already killed most zombies in the relatively exclusive housing area they settled in.
What they had been doing was that they attracted just enough zombies inside the gates, closed it, and then dealt with the zombies inside accordingly.
They had also gathered a couple of those crystals Khalifa asked them to save, which would be useful both as currency and power source should they awaken an element.
In the days they’ve been doing this, the two had formed a near seamless sort of teamwork.
Interestingly, the fact that they were two legs to a threesome may have something to do with it as well.
They moved in tandem, covering each other’s blindspots, fighting styles complimenting each other.
For instance, Cauis would slash, and Kaize would make a skillful parry.
Kaize would then swing his sharp machetes beheading another zombie, and Cauis would wave his weapon and kill the zombie right next to it.
These went on for several minutes and they managed to kill dozens of zombies.
They dared not be complacent of course. Khalifa said that within a few months, some zombies would upgrade, some still with powers. They would be extremely difficult to handle, then.
They continued to fight until the batch was finished off, winning a few dozen crystals in the process.
"One more?" Kaize asked, and the bespectacled man nodded.
And so, another batch entered. It was just that the mob was strong and more than anticipated had managed to get in.
"Damn!"
"It’s fine. Just kill as many quickly." Cauis yelled, putting out his gun to reduce the numbers.
What he didn’t see, however, was a zombie approaching him from his blind spot. Kaize’s eyes widened.
"Hey! Be careful!" He yelled as he felt a surge of energy course through his veins.
A small spark flickered at his fingertips, hitting the zombie distracting it enough that Cauis managed to behead it.
The brunette was a little confused at what just happened until Kaize was waving his arms around.
Only it was on fire.
"Fuck! Are you seeing this?!" He yelled, throwing his fiery arms around and burning the clothes of the zombies, eventually creeping up their skin.
"Fire?" Cauis gasped. "You could control it!"
Abilities!
Kaize absolutely brightened at this and flailed his fiery arms around. But zombies couldn’t feel pain, and they continued to attack even if they were burning.
Kaize soon found it hard to maintain the flame, as well.
Because of this, they soon realized that they shouldn’t be too happy, and they continued to slash their way through the mob, all the way until dark.
They looked relieved as the last zombie was beheaded, with Kaize igniting an ember to burn the corpses.
The two found a place to sit down as they waited for the corpses to turn to ashes, waiting for whichever the crystals that would emerge from the ashes.

As they relaxed, a group of survivors, who had been fighting for their lives a few hundred meters away, saw the light created by the fire.
"Is that…. Fire?"
"Smoke?"
The people struggled, killing as much as they could, slowly dwindling in numbers.
When they finally reached the gate, their number of a few scores were down to a few dozen.
"Is anyone there?! Please help!!"
"Ahhh!"
"HELLPPPPPP!"
They knocked wildly as they slashed away the zombies, hoping for an answer to their prayers.
It was an incredibly desperate time and a few more moments and they would lose the energy to fight any more.
And then the door opened, and they finally felt a breath of life.
