Chapter 104: Travel to Capitol
Chapter 104: Travel to Capitol
Of course it hurt as it was nearly lunchtime when they emerged from the room.
They got out very flushed, with almost everyone else blushing and couldn’t look them in the eye afterwards.
In any case, the group took advantage to consume all the perishable food in the area before they finally went on their way.
As such was the current scene.
The two cars were now passing through a highway with less cars and lesser zombies, sun casting eerie glows on the wide roads.
The zombies weren’t much and were squished by the monster truck as soon as they blocked the way.
As Khalifa wanted, the monster truck was only her, Hugo, and Mrs. Adams, while the rest had to get the SUV of the house owner, with Sid driving, to the ire of Trina and Kara.
However, since seeing Khalifa’s prowess, they dared not speak against her anymore.
They did talk bad behind her back though.
For example, now that they were in a different car, the teenager couldn’t help but rant her heart out.
"What a bitch…" Her jealousy fueled her disdain for Khalifa, who she perceived as a manipulative fox.
She faced Trina, who she had no doubt hated the woman as much as she did.
"Hmnn…" Trina mumbled, but her upbringing prevented her from adding any more shrew-like commentary.
This didn’t stop Kara from ranting, however, "She probably can’t survive without a man,
"She thinks she’s all t—"
Screech!
"What!!" They looked at the outside tense and scared and saw that there were no dangerous amounts of zombies outside.
They were currently driving along a highway in the middle of nowhere now, except for a few former-drivers, there were no other zombies.
Confused, they looked at Sid who had already begun to move forward.
"What happened?"
"I’m sorry," he said, "As you know, I am an artist. The noise gritted my ears."
Kara blushed from humiliation. And there was the fact that she loved Sid. Such words from him definitely hurt a lot.
"I… I just…"
"If you can’t be thankful, don’t take advantage." Sid couldn’t help but tell her. He was doing it from a good place, seeing Kara as a child that needed guidance.
However, his words further fueled the teen’s frustration instead.
"What did you just say?!" Kara yelled, pitch even higher than usual. Only now did she realize her idol was actually speaking for that woman!
"You too, Sid?!" She yelled, looking at him in disbelief. "She has at least three men!"
Sid pursed his lips, hurt, but didn’t really care in the end.
In fact, when she said it like that… he felt maybe… he had a little hope??
Seeing his expression, Kara felt like crying.
"You all just find me annoying, don’t you? Fine! Then. I’ll just leave!!!"
She opened the door and ran out, like a spoiled brat, making the car stop for real.
This surprised everyone in the car, and they didn’t know exactly what to do yet.
Khalifa looked back to see the car following had stopped several meters away. "What’s going on?" She asked, pretty eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
She looked at Hugo, "Stop the car." She said, and the monster truck stopped midway.
Some dozens of meters away, Kara continued to run as she cried.
She went out to the desolate highway, running relatively far before looking back to see who went after her.
She had believed that, as everyone had done since she was a child, she’d be coaxed back in.
But behind her was… no one.
No one followed her.
Instead of meeting someone to act spoiled with, she was met with eerie silence.
Her sobs were cut off abruptly by their apathy, and her heart sank as she heard familiar groans not too far away.
Then she saw two zombies heading her way, a few meters away, drawn by the sound of her loud sobs, and she began to run back to the car.
But she fell down and realized she ran to an area of an accident and the cars wouldn’t be able to go in without crushing another truck!
"Helpppp!!!!"
But this only energized the zombies, who were a meter away. She thought no one inside the cars bothered to go out. At most they drove the cars nearer, but that was it.
No one did anything.
When she realized it was too late. She felt that she was abandoned. Her eyes turned red and glared at the truck.
"Bitch!! Seducing everyone!!" She yelled, not noticing Khalifa, Hugo, and Sid had gone out of their cars with weapons.
"Even Sid!!" She shrieked, believing no one would bother to save her now, because it was what she would do in their position.
Khalifa blinked and turned to see the man flushed next to her. His handsome face was very red and she was inexplicably a little reminded by Jacob due to his youth.
Hugo sneered and raised his gun, sauntering towards the teen and the zombies closeby.
"I hope you all rot in hell!!" She yelled to the top of her lungs, screaming injustice. This made Hugo stop and his finger on the trigger paused, just for a few seconds.
But it was enough for the zombies to reach the screaming teen and they glomped on her with energy and greed.
Hugo took his shot only after they mauled Kara, making the other two a little surprised but didn’t call him out on it.
They still remembered how her mother died. Eventually, Kara would get another innocent killed if left alone. They did not have the luxury to babysit spoiled brats at the moment.
Hugo shot the zombies, leaving her alone lying down on the floor. In silence, none of the three moved forward, watching the changes from their positions.
Soon, the girl twitched, bones cracking, moving in odd ways. They watched as Kara became a zombie herself with complicated emotions but were soon brought down by reason.
There was no need to feel guilty about this. She brought it down on herself, and she was bound to bring down others if kept alive.
Hugo raised his gun pointing at this one last zombie, pressing the trigger.
Bang!
They watched as another zombie fell down, head exploded turning to mush.
’One fly down’, he thought.
